Naps

About a month ago, I saw an interview with Monica Ali on the BBC. Apparently, she wrote most of her first book Brick Lane while her two young children were either napping or sleeping at night. She talked about how she became obsessed with getting the two children to sleep at once, and how the chance to escape the in-the-moment existence of very young children was so alluring.

I can understand where she was coming from.

It's just after 7:30 pm, and my 8-month-old twins are asleep. They may be asleep for the night; they may wake up in 30 seconds. But right now they are unconscious on a mattress beside my desk, and the possibilities for these few moments are pretty much unlimited.
